Tamron updates 28mm-300mm for Nikon D40 D40x & D60

Tamron announced yesterday that its 28mm-300mm f/3.5-5.6 XR Di VC LD Aspherical Macro lens will now have a built-in AF motor allowing it to be used with Nikon's D60, D40x, and D40 DSLRs. Tamron's compact superzoom was first introduced in October 2007. It has a broad zoom range stretching from 28mm to 300mm, and employs Tamron's Vibration Compensation image stabilization system. It earns its macro designation by maintaining a 19.2-inch minimum focusing distance over the entire zoom range, with a maximum magnification of 1:3 at 300mm. It will be launched in Japan at the end of May

I'm really thinking about getting one of these but I will wait till I hear some reviews from some D40 owners. If you have one tell me what you think!

New Nikon D40 & D40x For Dummies Book - Kindle!

For Dummies and author/instructor Julie Adair King teamed up to create four books unlike any other on the market. While other DSLR books target experienced photographers and pros, these four For Dummies books target first-time and novice users who are interested in their new technology but might be intimidated by all the features.

"In a recent class I taught, none of the students with DSLRs understood even basic concepts such as aperture and shutter speed," Author Julie King reports. These books explain all the features of the latest entry level DSLR cameras, as well as how handle common tasks like getting images onto a PC and printing.
The Full-Color For Dummies books are being released from March 2008-September 2008 and cover the Nikon D40/D40x, the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi/400D, the Nikon D60, and the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XSi/450D respectively.

The assumption is that the reader has little to no knowledge of general photography terms or techniques. The goal of each book is to familiarize the reader with the controls and features of their camera so they can apply them to any shooting situation. Chapters cover:

Shooting in auto-mode

Adjusting image quality and size

Reviewing images

Controlling exposure

Using focus features

Managing color

Printing and sharing

Nikon D40/x Vibration Reduction Lenses (VR)

Well when I bought my D40 Kit it came with the Non-VR 18-55mm lens and the VR 55-200mm lens. I love both lens especially for me the beginner but I find myself using the 200mm VR lens much more then the non-VR 55mm Lens. Now all I want is the big 70-300mm VR lens. I want to zoom, zoom, zoom. I read nothing but good reviews on this lens and cant wait to get one. Costco has it for $499 So if I sell my 55-200 VR for say $200 then I can upgrade to the 70-300 mm VR for only $300 bucks! I like that idea. Nikon has also come out with a new version of the 18-55mm Lens in a VR model with I might end up trading my non-VR 18-55mm lens for. So for the beginner I'd say these 3 VRML lenses will help us take better pictures with out spending our retirement saving for a lens.
